Transcribing and improvising jazz for beginners

I wish I was a better jazz pianist. I can do rudimentary improvisation - I guess I just need to practice more.

Well, the piano department website at Berklee provides three easier jazz piano improvisations for the beginning transcriber which will improve your listening, transcription and playing skills.

Taking Hank Jones’ Rockin’ in Rhythm, Keith Jarrett’s In the Old Country, and Herbie Hancock’s Thieves in the Temple as example pieces, the lesson provides a chord progression of each solo, an audio MP3 file, and a model answer transcription.

It’s a really interesting lesson plan that should keep you busy for quite a few hours!
