Roland intros R-MIX audio processing software

October 4, 2011

Roland has introduced its new R-MIX audio processing software featuring newly developed V-Remastering technology and VariPhrase which “lets you see the components of a stereo mix as color-coded clouds of energy and harmonic matter as the song plays”.

A range of features makes it easy to create a number of different audio mixes, such as adding effects to single elements of a mix, adjusting panning positions and levels, independently adjusting pitch and speed, isolating instruments within a mix, creating karaoke-style tracks, and cleaning up old recordings.

Features at a glance:

  • View the elements of a stereo mix as color-coded clouds of energy and frequency matter onscreen
  • Freely select and manipulate any element within a stereo mix
    High-quality sound
  • Create “minus-one” type karaoke files from existing songs by lowering the level of the pre-recorded vocal or any other instrument you select
  • Create your own remixes and mash-ups by using two pairs of stereo tracks within R-MIX t Isolate any desired instrument within a mix, and then solo and slow down that element for study
  • Clean up old recordings and master your stereo mixes by adjusting individual instrument levels within a mix and applying noise reduction and effects
  • Compatible with Mac and Windows
  • Simplified version available for Apple iPad

High-Quality Sound

R-MIX makes magic happen, but magic is meaningless if the quality is poor. With R-MIX, you get high-quality, natural-sounding results without undesirable artifacts, glitches, or over-modulated sounds. And once you’ve finished your project, you can export it as an audio file and play it on any standard music-playback device, or import the file into your favorite music-software program.

Effects and Noise Cancel

Add effects only to any specific part of a mix, such as vocals, and clean up your mixes with the built-in Noise Cancel, which eliminates undesirable hiss and hum noises. Delay and reverb effects are also onboard, letting you add depth and expression to each element (or all) of your mix.

Create Your Own Mixes

You can easily make “minus-one” type karaoke files from existing songs by lowering the level of the pre-recorded vocal or any other instrument you select. Using the same technique in reverse, you can solo an individual part and analyze it for study; slow down a fast guitar solo, for example, and learn how to play it. Create mash-ups and remixes with stereo files as if they were multitracks. The sky’s the limit!

Fast Workflow

With R-MIX, there’s only one friendly screen to navigate. No need to switch screens or hunt through a maze of embedded menus. R-MIX’s controls are designed according to natural workflow so you can work effortlessly. A built-in Help window is provided for each task so you can operate R-MIX without the need for a printed manual.

iPad Version Available!

A simplified version of R-MIX called “R-MIX Tab” will be available for the Apple iPad. Use V-Remastering technology to extract audio elements from songs and easily create “minus-one” type play-along tracks from an audio file on your iPad!

Roland intros BOSS RC-300 Loop Station

October 4, 2011

If sampling and looping is your thing you’ll definitely want to take a look at the new RC-300 Loop Station from BOSS.

It claims to be the most powerful Loop Station yet (building on the RC-3 and RC-30 models announced at NAMM’11) featuring three synchronised stereo tracks and a host of controls including dedicated footswitches, pro effects, inputs, and PC connectivity.

At-a-glance features:

  • Three stereo tracks with dedicated footswitches and controls for each
  • Dedicated fader per track
  • Expression pedal for effects control in real time
  • Up to three hours of internal recording and 99 onboard memories
  • 16 onboard effects optimised for looping
  • XLR Microphone input with phantom power
  • USB storage; import/export WAV files

Triple Stereo Loops

Create, stack, and manipulate multi-layered loops with the RC-300′s three stereo tracks — each track being independently controllable. The “Auto Recording” feature starts recording the moment you begin playing your instrument, or as soon as you start a connected audio player. Count-In mode gives you one-bar of rhythm before recording starts. You can Undo/Redo as you go. The sky’s the limit with three hours of recording time!

Expanded Pedalboard

The RC-300′s ultra-wide pedalboard is equipped with an Expression pedal (which can be assigned to a variety of parameters) and enlarged footswitches for controlling REC/PLAY and STOP for each track. There’s also a master ALL START/STOP footswitch onboard. Additionally, three independent faders provide immediate control of each track’s output volume. And if that’s not enough control under your hands and feet, you can also connect external Expression pedals and footswitches (sold separately).

Onboard FX

Process your tracks and external-input signals with the RC-300′s expressive onboard effects, including Transpose, Flanger, Phaser, Modulator, vocal effects, and more. A dedicated LOOP FX footswitch is provided for instant activation of the onboard effects. Control the effects parameters in real time with the Expression pedal for hands-free creativity onstage. You can apply the effects to any single track as well as to the entire mix, expanding your creativity and musical expression.

Rhythm Guide and Preloaded Audio

To keep your loops tight and in time, you can play along with one of the cool rhythm patterns in the RC-300′s onboard library as you record; the Loop Quantize feature helps you having your recordings looped in time. Dozens of rhythm types are onboard, including rock, pop, shuffle, Latin, and more. A dedicated knob lets you adjust the volume of the rhythm, and you can set the tempo incrementally or via tap tempo. You can also specify the time signature. When you save a phrase, the rhythm type and time signature will also be saved. To get you up and running right away, the RC-300 comes preloaded with audio backing tracks (including bass tracks, piano tracks, etc.) for instant play-along performance and fun.

USB Connectivity

Connect the RC-300 to your computer via a standard USB cable, and back up your phrases externally for safekeeping. You can import and export WAV files between your computer and the RC-300; 16-bit/44.1kHz WAV files of up to 1.7GB in size can be imported.

AUX Input

In addition to recording your instrument performances and turning them into playable loops, you can record other external stereo audio sources via the AUX IN. Sounds from a digital-audio player or other device connected to the AUX input can easily be recorded and added to your loop performance.

Roland intros SPD-SX Sampling Pad

October 3, 2011

Calling it “the ultimate percussive sampling instrument”, Roland introduces the SPD-SX Sampling Pad, making it easy to capture, manipulate and play back audio.

Features include:

  • Unique sampling-pad concept — the only instrument of its kind in the world
  • 2 GB internal memory, enabling approximately 360 minutes of sampling (mono) without requiring external memory
  • Nine velocity-sensitive rubber pads, two external dual-trigger inputs
  • Easy capturing and assignment of audio data through Multi-Pad Sampling
  • Three units of multi-effects onboard, with two real-time control knobs and four dedicated effect buttons
  • Individual Pad Dynamics indicators show pad status and audio-level activity during performance
  • Expanded USB functionality (USB Mass Storage, USB MIDI/AUDIO, USB Memory)
  • Wave Manager software included for easily importing, assigning, and organising samples
  • Large backlit LCD

The Playing Field

The SPD-SX is equipped with nine highly sensitive rubber pads with two independent real-time control knobs and four dedicated effect buttons. Roland’s most advanced triggering technology ensures the ultimate in accuracy and fully dynamic performance, while a large backlit LCD provides easy-to-read data in all varieties of environments. Each pad has a companion LED that illuminates to show the pad’s status. When you trigger sample phrases, the LEDs remain lit to show you which pads are in play and which are not. In addition, the LEDs change illumination strength according to audio-level activity (similar to level meters on a mixing board). The high-contrast red divider lines help you see the pad zones clearly onstage.

Improved Playability and Functionality

Today, increasing numbers of drummers and percussionists need to incorporate audio samples into their performance. The SPD-SX will satisfy their increasing requirements with essential features such as individual click output routing, dedicated volume controls, Pad Check function, individual Sub Out, and more.

Onboard Effects

The SPD-SX has three multi-effects units onboard: one master unit and two units that are assignable per kit. The master effects engine lets you perform in real time like a DJ using the dedicated front-panel controls. Get your hands on the filter, delay, short looper, and user-assignable effect — all of which can be creatively adjusted with the four front-panel buttons and two control knobs.

Multi-Pad Sampling

There’s much more to the SPD-SX than meets the eye. A powerful-yet-friendly lineup of features has been built into this little powerhouse, such as Multi-Pad Sampling. While audio streams in from an external audio player or computer (via Audio In or USB), simply strike each pad at the appropriate start/end points, and the sample will be automatically truncated and assigned to that pad. It’s a fast, friendly way to create multi-sampled phrases and pad maps.

SPD-SX Wave Manager Software Included

The SPD-SX’s generous internal memory (2 GB) lets you store and carry your entire sample library inside. With no external memory required, you can house approximately 360 minutes of audio (10,000 files) at 16-bit, 44.1 kHz, mono. The built-in USB ports let you directly import audio files from USB flash memory. The bundled SPD-SX Wave Manager software app lets you import audio files directly from computer via USB, assign the samples to each pad, and organize the thousands of samples efficiently.

With Rodgers highly acclaimed voice engine onboard, the C-330 offers gorgeous tone with highly flexible pipe-voicing capability, Windchest panning, and controls for Warmth, Presence, Chiff, and more. Every custom setting you make can be conveniently stored to USB memory.

Roland intros C-200 Classic Organ

October 1, 2011

If you’re after the classic organ sounds but need an instrument that’s more compact and transportable, Roland’s new C-200 Classic Organ could be just what you’re looking for.

The 76 keys eliminates the need for a split-level keyboard, which may suit some players better. It’s still possible to simulate dual-manual performance via programmable split points and zones.

The organ looks like rather like a larger version of the Roland C-230 launched in 2009.

Features include:

  • Portable design with simple User Interface
  • 76 keys for two manuals simulation as well as wide key range for the Fortepiano and Piano sounds
  • Built-in stereo speaker system with Bass Reflex
  • Pedalboard IN (PK-IN) to support an optional PK-series pedalboard (PK-5A, PK-7A, PK-25A)
  • High-quality organ sounds with variations
  • Dedicated buttons for Harpsichord, Fortepiano, Piano and Celesta sounds
  • Internal Orchestral sounds for Pedal, Manual I and Manual II
  • Four baroque pitches and five Temperaments support by easy buttons
  • One-track recorder function for performance recording and evaluation

Classical Organ Sounds

The C-200 features dozens of high-quality organ sounds based on the Roland/Rodgers library, including samples of historic European church organs. The organ sounds and the orchestral sounds can be conveniently accessed in realtime via the front-panel tilt tabs.

Beautiful Orchestral Sounds

More than just high-quality organ sounds, the C-200’s authentic orchestral sounds can be played via each virtual manual plus pedals. Add an optional pedalboard, and turn the C-200 into a full-console organ akin to a church pipe organ.

Windchest Panning

Also of note is the C-200’s unique Windchest Panning feature, which recreates the sound of a classic church environment by simulating the physical location of pipes for each note played. Each note will emanate from its own unique location in the stereo soundfield — just like a true pipe organ!

Other split keyboard digital organs released by Roland include the C-330 and C-380.

Roland FP-4F: the lighter quality digital piano

September 26, 2011

Roland has introduced a lighter relative of its popular FP-4 digital piano.

The FP-4F is designed to be travel-friendly, taking the best features of the FP-4 such as V-Piano technology, SuperNATURAL piano engine, Ivory Feel-G 88-key keyboard with escapement and session partner accompaniment and putting them in a stylish, practical on-the-road body.

SuperNATURAL Piano

The FP-4F’s SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine combines our award-winning V-Piano technology with an exceptional 88-key stereo multisampling core. By extensively analyzing the characteristics of world-class concert pianos, we have faithfully replicated the unmatched tone color and expressiveness of a fine acoustic grand piano. SuperNATURAL Piano delivers the ultimate playing experience, with seamless tone variation according to touch, smooth and natural tone decay with no “looping,” and maximum expressivity in each individual key.

Compact and Ready to Travel

With a body that’s only 30.5 cm (12-1/16 inches) depth and a weight of only 16.6 kg (36 lbs 10 oz), the FP-4F is very convenient to transport, and it’s available in two classic finishes: white or black. At home or onstage, the FP-4F is friendly to operate with its high-visibility LCD, which provides a clear view of tones, song names, and parameters. You can place the FP-4F on any flat surface, or add a matching KSC-44 stand (optional) for a realistic piano look and feel. For performers who desire the utmost in portability, the collapsible KS-18 stand is an ideal match.

Ivory Feel-G Keyboard

Featuring Roland’s acclaimed Progressive Hammer Action design with Escapement, the FP-4F’s Ivory Feel-G keyboard inherits the functions, appearance, and texture of keyboards found on our flagship pianos. Thanks to the combination of the latest sensor technologies and the SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine, the FP-4F offers expressivity and performance that rivals that of high-end pianos.

Virtual Backing Band

The FP-4F’s Session Partner provides rhythm and accompaniment patterns created by professional musicians, letting you play along with an onboard dynamic backing band! You can even have the FP-4F play chord changes and ad-libs, or add complete accompaniment to a sing-along piece during a live performance. You’ll enjoy exploring the diverse range of built-in rhythm patterns, which are great song starters, as well as musical metronomes for improving your sense of timing.

Newly Designed Speaker System

Though the FP-4F’s newly designed speakers are compact in size, they deliver a rich and dynamic sound that’s perfect for intimate performances anywhere. At home and in smaller venues, you can simply plug in and play without having to carry a separate amplifier or set up a PA system.

USB Expansion

With its support for USB flash memory, the FP-4F lets you conveniently store your recorded performances and keyboard settings. You can also download SMF and WAV files from your computer and play them via a USB memory key from the FP-4F, or connect a USB CD drive (Roland’s CD-01A; sold separately) to blend your favourite audio CDs with your keyboard performance; both are great ways to add backing tracks to a live performance or to learn to play along with pre-recorded songs. Additionally, you can employ the Centre Cancel feature to minimise pre-recorded vocals or lead instruments for play- and sing-along fun, and use the Tempo Change feature to speed up or slow down a song without changing the pitch.

Roland intros BA-55 portable amp with easy switching modes

September 23, 2011

Buy the Roland BA-55 portable amplifier at zZounds

Roland has introduced its latest portable amplifier with a range of easy to use features including automatic mono/stereo output switching, echo and reverb modes, wireless microphones and either battery or mains powered operation.

Built in to the BA-55 portable amplifier is an accelerometer, similar to what you’d expect to find in the Apple iPhone or iPad, which recognises the orientation of the amp.

When used vertically, the amp automatically switches to a more powerful monophonic mode that’s great for speech and other vocals.

Turn the amp horizontally and it switches to stereo mode, good for use with MP3 players and musical instruments.

The amp is designed for use in smaller spaces, offering 108dB of sound output. It runs from 8 AA batteries or mains power.

With Wi-Fi on board, it comes with a s ingle 2.4GHz wireless microphone. A second mic can be added and used simultaneously.

There’s a 3-channel mixer and 2-band EQ on board, plus easy-to-use echo and reverb effects, a built-in anti-feedback function, plus line out. It’s compatible with Roland’s ST-A95 speaker stand.

Easy to Use and Transport

With the BA-55, ease of use is the name of the game. There’s nothing complicated about it: just turn on the wireless microphone and/or plug in your instruments, set the volume to the desired level, and go. That’s it! The BA-55’s automatic anti-feedback system blocks acoustic feedback without interrupting your audio. For easy transport, the BA-55 has a convenient built-in storage compartment to house your wireless microphones and accessories.

Multi-Purpose PA

The BA-55 lets you enjoy great sound anywhere, indoors or outdoors. Use batteries or the included AC adapter for the ultimate in convenience and flexibility— For speech, position the BA-55 vertically and the internal accelerometer will automatically switch operation to mono mode for maximum sound projection. For music, place the BA-55 horizontally and it will automatically switch to stereo mode; this is perfect when using MP3/CD players at dance parties, etc., or any application where wide sound projection is desired.

Built-In Echo/Reverb

Onboard the BA-55 is an Echo/Reverb that sounds great and is easy to use, with a single knob that adjusts both the effect type and amount. When you turn the knob from the Off position to 12 o’clock, you activate a natural plate-reverb-type effect that adds a natural ambience to your voice and/or instruments. When you turn from the 12 o’clock position to maximum, you switch to a repetitive echo-type effect. The echo/ reverb can also be turned on and off from the included DR-WM55 wireless microphone for convenient remote control (see below).

Wireless Microphone Included

The BA-55 package includes a high-quality wireless microphone (DR-WM55). Designed specifically for this system, the mic has Power On/Off and Echo On/Off switches. The Echo switch is linked to the BA-55’s Echo/Reverb effect, which lets you enable and disable it directly from the mic. This is a very handy feature, allowing the effect to be quickly turned off when speaking or making announcements, then easily switched back on for singing.

Available with a RRP of $1,249. Buy at zZounds.
