Taxpayers money funds beautiful baby grand
February 17, 2006 by Andy
Whilst $200,000 is a lot for taxpayers to shell out for a baby grand piano for Mackay City Council’s entertainment centre, it certainly is a beautiful instrument.
It’s a Steinway baby grand.
According to the Mackay Entertainment Centre Manager, Cheryl Jorgenson, anyone who’s played it says it’s worth every cent.”
“Apparently there’s something about playing a Steinway,” she relays. “Pianists have told me it’s all about the way it feels to play, it’s not just about how it sounds. And it sounds absolutely wonderful. You can really hear the difference.”
It has a strict access policy, can only be handled by people wearing special gloves, and lives in its own air-conditioned den when not being used.
