5 Moons multitrack recorder/looper in wood from Critter & Guitari

Enough of the plastic, or even the brushed metal, with another product finished out in warm, tactile wood. Enter the compact 5 Moons multitrack recorder/looper from Critter & Guitari.

At first glance it may look simply like a five track recorder, and in simple usage it is. Yet it can do more. As well as building individual tracks, there are options to loop and bounce down, which is basically putting the contents of two or more tracks into a single one, thus freeing up those other tracks for additional recording.

There’s an emphasis on fun and simplicity, and the possibility of discovering new musical ideas from thinking about performance and composition in a slightly different way.

Take a look at the intro video for an idea of what it can do.

Specs wise, there is a monophonic audio in and out, five track volume sliders, master output volume potentiometer, 48kHz 16 bit sample rate/depth, and 8GB microSD for holding the operating system and audio data, approximately 20 hours record time.

The device is made from pine and PLA, sized at 4.25 x 3.375 x 1.375″ / 10.8 x 8.5 x 3.6 cm and weighing 5oz/140g.

The build-in disk mode makes it easy to transfer files via USB-C to and from a DAW or computer. This makes it possible to offload recordings made on the device for storage or additional editing, as well as uploading audio files to the device to use as a basis for new songs or remix existing tracks.
