Crackle Kit
Rokit has created a DIY kit for building its Disintegrated Cracklebox, an experimental and highly tactile instrument designed for exploration and unique sound creation.
It’s based on Michel Waisvisz’s original Cracklebox, created in 1974, which produces sounds and tones based on contact and pressure on metal contacts by a performer’s fingers.
The human body becomes part of the circuit itself, altering the range of sounds which can be produced and often differing between people and even the same person at different times.
Rokit has “disintegrated” the original’s use of an LM709 chip — which is now obsolete — by taking the integrated circuit of the operational amplifier and dis-integrating it.
The kit is powered by a single 9V battery, or can be modified to use a 9V centre positive power supply.
