Casio has announced three new additions to its Celviano line of digital pianos, including a top-line model which uses an enhanced version of the AiR sound system for increased realism.
The AP-750 uses a new AiR Grand Sound Source, a newly developed Grandphonic Sound System, which recreates the way a grand piano resonates. It’s based on three world-famous European acoustic grand pianos—the Berlin, Hamburg, and Vienna—with the Berlin sound having been developed in collaboration with C. Bechstein, sampled and tailored for the eight-speaker Celviano.
The keyboard design features white keys with a hybrid construction of resin and spruce wood, while all keys simulate the look and feel of ebony and ivory without the ecological cost. The hammer action and key counterweights provide the feel and comfort of a grand piano. The pedals include continuously variable soft and damper pedals, with spacing based on a grand piano design.
The visual information bar allows pertinent information and controls to fade in and out as required, leaving a minimalist design when not in use. It can be used to show live playing data such as keystroke velocity and pedal depression, helping to guide a pianist’s learning journey on musical dynamics.
The Celviano features an instant continuous recording function which begins whenever a key or pedal is pressed, meaning impromptu performances aren’t lost.
In addition to the top-of-the-range AP-750, there’s also an AP-550 model with more basic functionality, and an AP-S450 which has a slim, compact case.
