ALT soundscape synth
ALT is an analog synthesizer designed for drones, soundscapes, and complex generative melodies,and after three years of development, it’s finally ready. Check out this video from last week which shows the final version of the instrument and goes over the concept, main features, and what has been added since the prototype version of last year.
Syntina: Synth/Concertina Hybrid
The Syntina is a concertina/synth, fully self-contained and designed to be portable and standalone, so it can be used in the context of traditional groups. Its synth-based engine means the sonic palette can be customised to meet the player’s needs.
Fitting in an 8-inch cube it contains the computer, speakers and battery pack and weighing half that of an electric guitar.
Cardboard/walnut synth
Gabriel Mejia-Estrella has built a working 34-key synth from scratch using materials which might not initially be considered, including a fibreglass-reinforced cardboard body, steam-bent walnut frame, and individual keys handmade from oak and walnut.

Hastings International Piano Competition 2026
The 2026 Hastings International Piano Competition’s 40 competitors have been announced. Rounds for the UK-based competition run from 26th February until the grand finals on 6th-7th March when the five remaining pianists will compete for prizes including the £35,000 first prize.
Finalists are aged between 19-29 and are from 18 nations including China, South Korea, Russia, Taiwan, USA, Ukraine and Japan.
