Based on the Ellitone Multi Synth of 2018, the ExFriend Synth is a beautiful wooden instrument designed in Poland by Maciek Jaciuk, and first released in 2019.
Both this and the original look as if they should be vintage — they are certainly rustic. Not your everyday synth anyway.
The listing we found this on suggests “limitless sounds thanks to the patching network at the top”.
Jaciuk writes of the ExFriend Synth:
“ExFriend Synth is a clone of Ellitone Multi Synth, a small but powerful device based on Arduino. It is an official, legal and approved by the manufacturer. The synthesizer has 4 keys, each with a potentiometer and a patchbay, where by plugging the cables we connect individual points, changing patches or “presets”. Potentiometers, depending on the patch, regulate the pitch of each key or affect the sound or a whole lot of other parameters”
It features six types of synthesis:
- wavetables
- patterns
- FreqModz (FM)
- Infinite Bounce Matter (bounce ball style sequencer)
- Chirpp (experimental cosine-grain type synthesis)
- Panic Voice Engine (brutal data distortion type synthesis)
It’s considered rare, as appear to be all of Jaciuk’s instruments. Almost certainly this is built by hand, and is surely a tactile experience.
