Haken Audio has announced the imminent availability of its EaganMatrix Micro desktop nodule synthesiser, offering the same sound engine found in the Continuum Fingerboard and Osmose Expressive-E.
The interface is minimalist, with just a seven-segment display and a few buttons, but the instrument still offers deep sound design capabilities via editor software.
The module has hundreds of system presets already loaded, covering strings, winds, vocals and more, with each able to be customised.
The Micro is great for use with MPE controllers, allowing for much greater performance and control potential than standard MIDI controllers.
Connections-wise, there’s USB for power and MIDI, stereo audio output for line and phone level, and external input for use with expression pedals of Haken’s CV converter.
The sound engine features multiple synthesis engines including physical modelling, additive and spectral techniques. Polyphony ranges from one to three voices for complex patches up to eight for simpler sounds.
The onboard DSP allows for sophisticated modulation routing and real-time control which responds to expressive playing.

Haken Audio does note that “at this time, the EaganMatrix Micro is being sold specifically for use with the Warbl, connected wirelessly with the CME-Widi Uhost… At this time we cannot provide Help Desk support for other combinations of equipment. The EaganMatrix Micro will not be simple plug-and-play; for example, the EaganMatrix Micro does not (yet) work with the CME-H4MIDI, but it does work with the CME-Widi Uhost.”
