Baby Audio has announced the release of its granular engine powered HyperWarp time-twisting multi-effect plugin, sporting a graph interface for building rhythmic sequences and adding colourful textures.
The interface lets you see whatever audio is being operated on as a standard waveform, over which you draw in modifiers, such as speed shifts, stutter steps, and direction changes. You can create both rhythmic sequences and fluid, time-warped motion.

As per granular synthesis, audio is broken into tiny snapshots and then reassembled according to the rules and actions in place.
On a per-grain level, you can adjust pitch, resolution, randomness and feedback. Seven effect profiles — clean warp, flange warp, degrade warp, filter spam, harmo-nicer, fauxcoder and lo-fizzly — add their own character to the sound.
For the times when you don’t want to work too hard or overthink, and are happy to stumble on potential happy accidents, there is a graph randomiser which may end up producing something you really like.
Added to this, there are 190 ready-to-use presets for exploring how the graph interacts and modifies what sounds you import.
Of course, it’s down to both the graph and the source audio to determine what kind of results you get — there’s certainly a lot of room for experimentation.
Honestly, I can’t say for sure whether this plugin is going to do anything hugely different from the stock granular engine you probably already have sitting in your DAW (I’m thinking Sample Alchemy in Logic for example) – but then that can be said of lots of plugins. Then again, it could be just what you need, and do it in a way you like the workflow of.
Pick it up for 50% off, normally $79, now $39, or you can subscribe to own at $11.99/month.
