Overview

The Casio SK-200 is a synthesizer with sampling capabilities released in 1987. It is aimed at musicians wanting to create and modify their own sounds.

The SK-200 has 49 synth/organ style mini keys without touch sensitivity or aftertouch. It has eight notes of polyphony. It has 12 on board sounds including pianos and real world sounds, accompaniments and rhythms, and no pedals.

The SK-200 uses Casio's PCM, a classic wave-based synthesis offering basic sampled sound playback.

It has the ability to record and play back user performances. It has no built-in learning system. It has a built-in amplifier and speakers. It can run from both AC and battery power.

It's a part of the SK family of instruments.

As the Casio SK-200 is 39 years old, you may find used models and spare parts on ebay.

An earlier model again (1987), despite the number, but one which delivers a four octave spread of keys and provides a bit of an update to the SK-1, although that does appear to have more sampling manipulation abilities. The SK-200 was clearly designed by someone infatuated with buttons, which you use for the rhythm and sound selections. There is an audio in and out as well as the built-in mic, again making for better quality sound capture and sends. Sampling quality isn’t that much improved, though at the time it was a great, and cheap, option for certain kinds of music. The keyboard lets you build up your own rhythms, has four sample slots, is 8 note polyphonic (only three for samples), and can be used as rudimentary sequencer.
