Description
The Prophet-5 is revered by artists for its unique and influential sound that has shaped music for decades. Introduced in 1978 as the world’s first fully programmable polyphonic synthesizer, it revolutionized music production by enabling musicians to instantly save and recall sounds. Today’s Prophet-5 Rev4 remains faithful to the original design, recreating the analog circuitry that produces its rich warm tone, while still adding a few new twists that modern musicians love.
For nearly 50 years, the Prophet-5 has lent its classic tone to iconic songs by artists like Phil Collins, Hall & Oates, A-ha, Michael Jackson, Radiohead, and Taylor Swift among countless others. Discover its rich musical legacy and kick off your Prophet-5 journey with some of our favorite tracks.
Level up with the Prophet-10, featuring the same great sound as the Prophet-5 but with double the voices. And with its bi-timbral capability, the Prophet-10 allows you to layer two programs for richer, more powerful pads, or split the keyboard for more flexible performance options.
The Prophet-5 returns with carefully chosen modern enhancements that were not available on the original instruments. Velocity and aftertouch introduce dynamic control, making each performance more expressive and vibrant. And seamless MIDI connectivity ensures the Prophet-5 integrates effortlessly into any contemporary studio setup.
Synthesis
- Two authentic CEM 3340 VCOs per voice
- Simultaneously selectable wave shapes. Oscillator A: sawtooth, pulse. Oscillator B: sawtooth, triangle, pulse.
- Variable pulse width per oscillator
- Hard sync: oscillator A syncs to oscillator B
- Oscillator B low frequency (LFO) mode
- Oscillator B keyboard tracking on/off
- White noise source
- Switchable four-pole, resonant, low-pass filter per voice
- Rev1/2 filter is a Dave Rossum-designed 2140, the modern counterpart of the original 2040 filter found in the Prophet-5 Rev1 and Rev2
- Rev3 filter is a Doug Curtis-designed CEM 3320
- Filter can be driven into self-oscillation with the Resonance control
- Filter keyboard tracking: off, half, full
- Four-stage (ADSR) Filter envelope generator
- Four-stage (ADSR) Amp envelope generator
- Velocity modulation of envelope amounts
- Three LFO wave shapes: sawtooth, triangle, square, and all waveshapes can be engaged simultaneously
- LFO initial Amount and mod wheel control
- LFO mod destinations: oscillator A frequency, oscillator B frequency, oscillator A and B pulse width, filter cutoff
- Poly mod sources: filter envelope and oscillator B
- Poly mod destinations: oscillator A frequency, oscillator A pulse width, filter cutoff
- Polyphonic glide (portamento)
- Unison (monophonic) mode with configurable voice count, from one to all five voices and key modes
Enhancements
The Vintage knob recreates the characteristics of various Prophet-5 revisions by varying the behavior of oscillators, envelopes, amplifiers, and other components. Go from a very stable “4” — as in Prophet-5 Rev4, (the new version) — all the way to “1,” as in Prophet-5 Rev1, the rarest and most temperamental of all Prophet-5s.
Selectable filter and amplitude envelope velocity response adds new dynamics to Prophet-5 sounds
Channel (mono) aftertouch brings a new dimension of expression to the Prophet-5
Aftertouch destinations: filter cutoff frequency, LFO amount
The addition of MIDI enables seamless integration with modern studios
Hardware
- Full-sized, semi-weighted, premium Fatar 5-octave keyboard with velocity and aftertouch

- Transpose controls for an 8-octave range
- Hold switch latches held notes on
- Preset switch: when off, the front panel is live; what you see is what you hear
- 200 user and 200 factory programs in 5 banks of 40 programs each
- Direct program access, including single-button access to the current set of 8 programs
- Keyboard dimensions: 37.37” L x 16.35 W x 5.95″ H (94.92 cm x 41.52 cm x 15.11 cm)
