Yamaha PSR-7000 Information, Specifications and Resources

Author: Andy Merrett / Data Driven

Overview

The Yamaha PSR-7000 is a workstation keyboard released in 1995. Workstations typically have advanced functions for multitrack recordings, large sound banks and performance features.

The PSR-7000 has 61 synth/organ style full sized keys with touch sensitivity and aftertouch. It has 64 notes of polyphony. It has hundreds of on board sounds including pianos and real world sounds, accompaniments and rhythms, and a sustain/damper pedal.

It uses Yamaha's AWM sound generation. Advanced Wave Memory is a classic high-quality sample playback and layering engine.

It has the ability to record and play back user performances. It has built-in MIDI capabilities. It has no built-in learning system. It has no built-in speakers which means you will have to connect it to external amplification and speakers in order to hear it. It runs from AC power.

It's a part of the PSR family of instruments, whose models span from 1984 to the present day. Its release year of 1995 has it launched in the main years of PSR production.

Description

The PSR-7000 was a fairly advanced keyboard in the PSR range from the mid-1990s. Perhaps unusually for the PSR range, it was marketed as a professional keyboard, and certainly had a number of features on board which would steer it that way.

The keyboard included aftertouch - unusual for most PSR instruments - as well as a bank of sounds which could be edited by the user, an onboard arranger, external floppy disk storage and support for a hard drive.
