Author: Andy Merrett / Data Driven

Overview

The Yamaha PSR-SX620 is a workstation keyboard and synthesizer released this year. Workstation synths typically have advanced functions for multitrack recordings, large sound banks, performance features, and sound creation and manipulation.

The PSR-SX620 has 61 synth/organ style full sized keys with touch sensitivity but no aftertouch. It has 128 notes of polyphony. It has hundreds of on board sounds including pianos and real world sounds, accompaniments and rhythms, and a sustain/damper pedal.

It uses Yamaha's AWM sound generation. Advanced Wave Memory is a classic high-quality sample playback and layering engine.

It has the ability to record and play back user performances. It has built-in MIDI capabilities. It offers an on-board learning system. It has a built-in amplifier and speakers. It runs from AC power.

The keyboard is a decent choice for children. It's a part of the PSR family of instruments, whose models span from 1984 to the present day. The keyboard was released this year, with the PSR family still adding new models.

Description

The PSR-SX620 sits as a fairly entry-level model, listed just above the PSR-SX600 and beneath the PSR-SX720+.

The PSR-SX600 has a redesigned panel layout and places essential controls where they’re needed. This includes the Joystick Controller and Live Control Knobs found on other models released this year.

The overall layout has been changed somewhat from the SX600 and SX720+, with Yamaha claiming it’s more intuitive to use.

The speaker system delivers powerful, refined sound from a compact cabinet, including an internal passport for deeper bass, enhanced resonance and a tighter sound.
