Overview

The Yamaha PSS-7 is a home keyboard released in 1997. It is marketed primarily to home musicians.

The PSS-7 has 32 synth/organ style mini keys without touch sensitivity or aftertouch. It is a monophonic instrument, meaning it can play only a single note at once. It has 100 on board sounds including pianos and real world sounds, accompaniments and rhythms, and no pedals.

It uses Yamaha's AWM sound generation. Advanced Wave Memory is a classic high-quality sample playback and layering engine.

It has no built-in learning system. It has a built-in amplifier and speakers. It can run from both AC and battery power.

The keyboard is a decent choice for children. Its miniature keys are ideal for smaller fingers. It's very much an entry level model, making it cheaper but also with fewer functions or lower quality sounds than more expensive keyboards. It's a part of the PSS family of instruments.

The PortaSound PSS-7 is also equipped with a karaoke feature with 10 songs and 30 types of band accompaniment for any type of melody.

Reportedly used by popular musicians including Michael Jackson, Herbie Hancock, and Prince.
