Overview

The Yamaha PSS-A50 is a home keyboard released in 2019. It is marketed primarily to home musicians.

The PSS-A50 has 37 synth/organ style mini keys with touch sensitivity but no aftertouch. It has 32 notes of polyphony. It has 40 on board sounds including pianos and real world sounds, accompaniments and rhythms, and no pedals.

It uses Yamaha's AWM sound generation. Advanced Wave Memory is a classic high-quality sample playback and layering engine.

It has the ability to record and play back user performances. It has built-in MIDI capabilities. It has no built-in learning system. It has a built-in amplifier and speakers. It can run from both AC and battery power.

The keyboard is a decent choice for children. Its miniature keys are ideal for smaller fingers. It's very much an entry level model, making it cheaper but also with fewer functions or lower quality sounds than more expensive keyboards. It's a part of the PSS family of instruments.

FAQ

Can it run on batteries?

These models can use batteries. Use four “AA” size, Alkaline (LR6)/ Manganese (R6) batteries, or rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. Open the battery compartment cover located on the instrument's bottom panel and insert the four batteries.

Why is the volume low for certain Voices / tone ranges?

Each Voice of the PSS-A50 is set so that the optimum sound can be produced by the built-in speakers. For this reason, Voices that produce low-pitched sounds, such as bass Voices, are set at a low volume so that the sound does not distort. (In addition to bass Voices, the volume might also be low when using octave shift to play in the bass range.) Although it is not possible to set the volume to the same level as other Voices such as piano and brass, you can turn off the Touch Response setting to produce a constant volume.
