Overview

The Yamaha YPT-220 is a digital piano released in 2010. It is aimed at those primarily wanting a quality piano sound and keyboard feel.

The YPT-220 has 61 synth/organ style full sized keys with touch sensitivity but no aftertouch. It has 32 notes of polyphony, which is considered low for a modern digital piano but was common on older instruments with less advanced sound technology. It has hundreds of on board sounds including pianos and real world sounds, accompaniments and rhythms, and a sustain/damper pedal.

It uses Yamaha's AWM sound generation. Advanced Wave Memory is a classic high-quality sample playback and layering engine.

It has built-in MIDI capabilities. It offers an on-board learning system. It has a built-in amplifier and speakers. It runs from AC power.

The keyboard is a decent choice for children. It's very much an entry level model, making it cheaper but also with fewer functions or lower quality sounds than more expensive keyboards.

How to use the split point function on the Yamaha YPT-220

The Split Point setting can be changed as desired, with the default split point set at key 54 (F#2) - this is 19 keys up the keyboard from the left hand side.



To change the split point, press the [FUNCTION[ button repeatedly until "SplitPnt" appears on the display.



Then use the number key pad or the + and - buttons to set the number of the key you wish to use as a split point. The diagram underneath will update to show which key has been selected. Note that key numbering starts from the lowest C key at 36, not 1.



Press + and - at the same time to reset the split point position.
