A baby grand piano with every one of the 52 white keys containing the signature of a well-known musician is due to be auctioned at this year’s Musicfest.
Whoever places the winning bid on this Young Chang piano will take it away, but they’ll be hard pressed to play it. To preserve the signatures, it’s encased in plexiglas.
A piano technician with John J. Zeiner & Sons came up with the idea and has been collecting musicians’ signatures for about a decade.
Star signatories include Ray Charles, Rosemary Clooney, Tony Bennett, Lou Rawls, Huey Lewis, Boyz II Men and Savage Garden.
The piano is valued at $20,000 but expect the winning bid to be much higher than this. Proceeds from the auction, to be held on Sunday 11 August, 1pm at Musikfest Café at the ArtsQuest Center, will go to the ArtsQuest Arts education fund.
