Quach Hoang Nhi, aged 9, beat 21 other candidates aged between 7 and 9 in Group D of the Mozart International Piano Competition 2013, held in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.
They were marked on their ability to play a sonata piece judged to be difficult for their age. Quach Hoang Nhi beat talented contestants from around the world, including the US, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines.
She has studied the piano for five years and won several international and local prizes, especially the gold prize at the music festival held in Cheonan, the Republic of Korea in August 2012.
