Music Thing has announced the second version of its Radio Music 4HP Eurorack sample player module will be available towards the end of October this year, five years after the original Radio Music was retired due to a lack of chip availability.
The module is something between a CV controllable radio, tape loop machine and vintage sampler.
This isn’t a real radio (that would be fun, and could bring back childhood memories of sweeping through random foreign stations on AM and SW with seemingly bizarre content late at night – but anyway…) but it simulates something like the effect by turning the Station knob to browse through samples stored on an SD card.
Tapping the Start knob enters pitch mode, controlling playback speed and direction of the current sample.
Like an analog radio, the module works on a series of banks and stations. Sixteen banks can each contain many different stations, which are stored in folders on the SD card.
An optional Radio Remote gives tactile, playable access to settings on the Radio Music, as an 8mu USB MIDI controller.
One more important thing – as this is modular you need to build the thing yourself. That’s part of the fun though, right?
