Roland has announced the latest in its FP line of portable digital pianos — the FP-40 — along with a free Piano Sphere app developed in partnership with the Skoove piano learning method.
FP-40
The FP-40 features expressive sound, enhanced with the dynamic onboard speaker system, housed in a compact and stylish cabinet.
The FP-40 utilises the Piano Reality Sound Engine, inspired by technology found in Roland’s GP series of grand pianos, and capturing the depth, detail and tonal character of an acoustic piano.
The keyboard uses Roland’s renowned PHA-4 Standard keyboard offering fully weighted, graded hammer action, escapement, and ivory feel keys with a triple-sensor system that enhances responsiveness and natural expression.
This model is the first of Roland’s digital pianos to include Wi-Fi, allowing more seamless access to online apps and content, and ensuring the instrument’s software is kept up-to-date. There’s also Bluetooth to allow song streaming from mobile devices through the instrument’s speaker system.
Piano Sphere App
Roland says its new Skoove-based Piano Sphere App is perfect for players of every skill level. It’s exclusive to the FP-40 and is designed to keep players on track with immediate, integrated feedback and exciting content.
Developed by professional instructors, it offers a fun approach that encourages users to start with the music they love and see learning progress from there.
Piano Sphere features 100 licensed, copyright-free songs spanning pop, classical, and more — including Coldplay, Harry Styles, and other well-known artists. The app can be upgraded to access over 1000 songs and lessons.
The app creates personalised plans based on a learner’s skill level, musical taste, and desired pace. Step-by-step lessons make it easy to enhance piano skills in an engaging way. It even detects, via the FP-40, when the player is struggling with a section of music and offers to assist.
Other incentives to learning consistency include streaks, rewards badges, and a record of playing time.
