Steinway has announced its Skyline Collection, allowing owners to have a favourite city or landscape view adorned on the outside shell of any grand piano or Spirio piano player.
To introduce the collection they’ve shown off the Manhattan and the Qing Ming.
As you’d imagine, the Manhattan is inspired by the city’s iconic skyline, featuring an Ebony finish adorned with a 23-karat gold leaf mural around the entire piano case. Painstakingly applied by hand through painting, brushing and etching.
It begins on the treble side at the George Washington Bridge, then moves south along the island, looping around to the Statue of Liberty and on to the Brooklyn Bridge.
On the bass side, the historic Hell Gate train bridge is depicted, complete with a locomotive pulling Steinway train cars.
The Qing Ming is inspired by the 12th century scroll. The Qingming Festival has been observed by the Chinese for over 2,500 years.
The Qing Ming Steinway references a famous 12th-century Qingming scroll by Zhang Zeduan. It is an ancient Chinese painting which portrays the scene of Kaifeng city, the capital of the Song Dynasty during a Qingming festival.
