Synterra is a synth built to interact with organic objects, living organisms and different surfaces.
It uses changes in the magnetic and electrical fields around it to create and manipulate sound generation. Almost anything goes — liquid or solid organic materials, fruits, plants, fungi, trees, light, and the touch-sensitive surface area.

It also determines its initial position on startup by using the magnetic field of its environment as a reference.
Synterra converts received signals into data, which is then processed through probability and quantiser structures, then creating different notes at different times. It has eight different scale options on board.
Other features include nine different synth presets, including a variety of synthesis characters based on subtractive, wavetable, resonators, Karplus-Strong, drums, and noise.
Additional sensors can be added using the clip cables and additional sensor input.
Polyphony is between one and five voices. Ten LED indicators are used to show voicing.
Synterra is powered either by batteries or USB. Onboard potentiometers allow for adjusting the output level of the internal sounds.
Synterra can also be used as a synth free from generative synthesis and probability mode, allowing all internal sounds to be freely played or controlled via MIDI.
Vaemi has announced its Synterra interactive generative synthesiser is open for pre-orders and will be available to ship from the beginning of September. Initial pricing is $99, RRP is $119.
