Heritage Audio has announced the launch of its SYNTH BUDDY 10×1 stereo passive instrument selector, a compact desktop audio switcher which could come in very handy for those with more than a handful of audio devices all clamouring to send their signals to your computer or other input-limited device.
Perhaps not an issue for those of us who do most of our music making in a DAW with soft synths, but for those with many real hardware instruments, the spaghetti of cabling soon becomes a real headache — and the thought and practice of swapping cables around every time you want to use a new instrument isn’t exactly conducive to the “always ready” state of creativity.
The company claims SYNTH BUDDY is the first desktop 10-to-1 reversible and fully passive stereo switch. It allows you to plug in up to 10 stereo, or 20 mono, line level sources and toggle between them by simply turning the knob. No power source required.
Only one audio path is active at once (although you can plug two mono sources into a single channel which potentially gives you two independent sources at once) so this isn’t a mixer of any kind and if you need two or more stereo devices to be pushing audio through to your receiving device at once, you’ll need an alternative solution. For many uses, though, this hardly little box could prove invaluable, keeping everything read to go and (relatively) tidy.
It’s also possible to use the SYNTH BUDDY in reverse, splitting one input out to up to ten receiving devices.
