I’ve just stumbled across Trio, a cool little interactive “singing synth” which uses computer-assisted three part harmony on a rather angelic, female-form voice.
It’s incredibly easy to use, with a simple green and white interface marking out different notes on a C Major scale. Tapping or clicking sounds a single ‘sung’ note, while keeping a note depressed for longer results in a pleasing two- and then three-part harmony being produced.
Vertical positioning affects the vibrato of the voice, while there is a small element of glissando legato when moving between different notes.
From the user point of view, that’s all there is to it. I certainly don’t underestimate the amount of work behind the scenes, though. The GitHub page of author Paul Batchelor says that Trio is “written using WebAudio, Canvas, WebAssembly, and Rust.”
