XILS-lab has announced their software take on emulating the legendary Yamaha CS-80 keyboard. They have attempted to faithfully recreate the iconic sounds and experience of the ’80s instrument by meticulously studying and replicating its features.
Not only that, but they have added enhancements to create what they hope will be a modern classic.
Features
Three synthesis lines, Four effects, Easy to tweak.
- An advanced Preset manager which allows you to find quickly the right sound for your music.
- Each synthesis line features one oscillator with LFO, high Pass and Low pass Filters with two envelopes.
- An advanced 2D Mixer with animation.
- An extended Arpeggiator which can modulate component depending on the current step.
- Easy access to Vibrato, Tremolo, Poly After touch, Velocity.
- Four deep and warm effects with independent routing: Delay, Phaser, Reverb, EQ.
- A ring modulator associated with a simple envelope.
- A chorus for Tremolo and Vibrato as well as ensemble effects.
- Plenty of modulation sources and destinations.
Each synthesis line features 12 dB analog zero-delay high-pass and low-pass filters, powered by a uniquely designed envelope. Unlike traditional envelopes, this one lacks a sustain control, instead offering an initial level and an attack level. The initial level determines the starting point of the envelope, while the attack level sets the peak it reaches after the attack phase.
The zero-delay design ensures there’s no spectral warping at high frequencies, a common issue in many digital filters. For example, when the cutoff frequency is set to 10 kHz, only frequencies above 20 kHz are reduced by 12 dB per octave, preserving the integrity of the high-frequency spectrum.
By avoiding oversampling, we maintain the raw purity of the oscillators while keeping CPU usage efficient and resource-friendly.
A new Extended Arpeggiator has been integrated: Much more than the standard playing up and down the notes of a chord, this arpeggiator added cycled modulations and mute possibilities for sparkling notes that are a full of life.
Unlock expressive sound with an array of dynamic controls: Polyphonic Aftertouch, Velocity sensitivity, a Sub-Oscillator, and a Ring Modulator—all easily accessible and adjustable with the simple slide of a fader.
Usually available at the price of €179, it’s currently on sale for €89.
