Yamaha Genos2 set to be announced in mid-November

Update: Genos2 launches

We’ve seen some teaser slides floating around the Internet over the past couple of days suggesting that Yamaha will announce, and possibly even launch, a second generation Genos on 15th November.

Naturally there is plenty of speculation over what a second generation Genos could contain, but we’re sure you can already dream and wish, and as it’s only a few weeks until the announcement is made, we’ll hold off on the guesswork and wait until Yamaha gives an official presentation before publishing the details here.

One thing that is worth bearing in mind—and something Yamaha may need to rename to avoid any confusion—is that this is almost certainly a completely new/upgraded hardware keyboard, becoming the flagship Genos, rather than a software/firmware upgrade. The original Genos is already up to version 2.1 on downloadable updates, which bring new functionality and fixes. We think this ought to be relabelled sooner rather than later (or the new Genos given a very distinct name) so there is absolutely no confusion.

Anyway, we look forward to the ongoing transformation of this line of workstations, which started with Tyros up to the Tyros 5 and then transitioned to Genos. Yamaha had brought out a new model in the series approximately every three years, starting in 2002 with the original Tyros. The Genos was launched in November 2017 so we’ve had to wait six years for an update. That said, Yamaha hasn’t stood still with producing other high-end arranger keyboards during that time, including the PSR-S series.

I find it interesting that several recent Yamaha announcements and launches seem to have happened in the UK or Europe before the US. I don’t know how deliberate this is, or if the market for Yamaha musical instruments is stronger there. In any case, the 15th November announcement is at 6pm CET (Central European Time) which is 5pm GMT / 12pm EST / 9am PST.
