Yamaha has launched three models in a new B Series upright acoustic piano family, namely the B10, B20 and B30, which as well as the base model are also available as SILENT and TransAcoustic pianos.
The B Series builds on the b series, highly recognised in Europe, and offering it at a more accessible price.
New Hammers and Soundboard
The range features newly-developed hammers which take advantage of the excellent elasticity of felt, and taking knowledge gained from the development of the CFX Concert Grand Piano.
This allows for a focused, resonant tone bringing out melodies across the entire range.
Additionally, the soundboard has been redesigned to give a clear, spacious sound despite the compact nature of the instruments.
The soundboard features a curved structure known as a crown, where even slight variations in shape can affect the tone. To protect this delicate structure from the strong tension of the strings and maintain optimal resonance, all models are equipped with five back posts.
In the B10 and B20 models, the increased height expands the soundboard area, delivering a wider dynamic range and richer, more expansive sound. Longer bass strings also improve pitch stability and create a beautifully balanced sound with a rich bass.
Model Variants
Along with the base models, there’s a choice of a SILENT piano version – allowing practice with headphones – and TransAcoustic, allowing volume control while preserving the instrument’s rich acoustic resonance.
In all cases, the long and wide music stand makes it easy to place multiple or folding music manuscripts, thus reducing page turning. Additionally, the lid has a soft close mechanism for safety and elegance.

Pricing and Availability
At present these B Series pianos seem to only be available in the UK. Pricing may be “affordable” but, as is often the way, is not immediately obvious.
