Yamaha has announced the launch of its Mobile VOCALOID Editor for iPhone and iPad, available on a subscription model which unlocks an AI synthesis engine as used on the PC/Mac versions of VOCALOID6.
The engine synthesises more natural, richly expressive singing voices. A new voice bank “asa”, featuring a delicate and translucent singing voice, is included as a standard feature, in addition to the existing banks of characters such as Hatsune Miku, IA, and v flower, along with new AI compatibles including AI Megpoid and Otomachi Una.
Users can create authentic sounding vocals by entering lyrics in English for each note of the melody in the piano roll, or via external MIDI device. There are currently some 40+ additional character voicebanks which users can purchase in order to increase the variety of vocals created.
Pricing is $3.99 per month, with additional voice banks costing $19.99 each as a one-off payment.
Subscriptions aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but its introduction does allow for ongoing development and running of the AI engine, which is not a free commodity.
