Yamaha has updated its AvantGrand line of hybrid pianos with the launch of the NU1XA, boasting improved touch and new pedals for a more realistic acoustic grand piano feel, new sensors, newly designed sound system, and compact design.
Yamaha’s press release doesn’t state as much but the model number suggests this is an update to the AvantGrand NU1X launched over five years ago.

Improved Action
The NU1XA simulates a real acoustic piano and the nuances available to the pianist, including delicate key movements being transferred to the hammers. This makes it possible to play flawless trills and other notes in rapid succession.
The keys are made from wood and the shape of the keyboard action parts have been optimised.
New Pedals
New GrandTouch pedals allows the NU1XA to more closely resemble those found on a grand piano.
Dual Sensors
Yamaha’s Articulation Sensor System is used to detect key and hammer movements, offering more accurate interpretation of subtle musical expression during performance.
New hammer sensors have been added to more accurately detect timing and strength of hammers hitting the strings. Sensors under the keys accurately determine the stopping point of sounds and other nuances of performance, ensuring that even the most subtle musical expression is preserved.
Redesigned Sound System
The sound system uses a radiating structure to replicate the depth and fullness of sound of a grand piano. Speakers placed near the top of the unit emit high-pitched sounds and radiate them out to the front and back of the piano. Speakers near the feet emit sound upwards, causing resonation throughout the piano body. The sound more closely recreates resonant, 3D sound of an acoustic grand piano.
Compact Design
Though designed to mimic an acoustic grand, the upright design of the NU1XA is both compact and refined.
