Master piano manufacturer Edelweiss has created a one-of-a-kind baby grand piano artwork called Harmony of Nature, where one of their baby grand acoustic pianos has been wrapped in a representation of an autumn leaf.
Designed by Ambika Hinduja Macker from Impeccable Imaginations, it is inspired by nature and has ended as a slightly abstract piece of art surrounding a full playable instrument.
The sculpture is cast in bronze and clad in 22.5 karat moon-gold leaf. Each viewing angle reveals another aspect. At a distance there is a silhouette of the sculpture. The underlying keys are revealed under a lid held buy a thin twig-like curvilinear support. Looking from above, the exposed frame and soundboard covered by an invisible mesh, the elongated, elegant form of the leaf is seen. The back of the sculpture has two sets of mesh-covered circular holes, essential for the instrument’s sound but also referencing the natural features of fallen leaves.
The accompanying stool is shaped like a small pebble and again covered in gold leaf.
As this was an individual commission, there will never be another piano created like this.
